2025 UNC Football Predictions
By Don Corleone Jones (@cjoneswho1212 on twitter)
The entire college football world has their eyes down in Chapel Hill this season as Bill Belichick has his first year as the head coach of the UNC Tar Heels. The top storyline has to be will his coaching style do well in today’s college landscape. Their roster is reshaped through the portal and I am beyond excited to see what Belichick has to offer in college football. With that being said here is my prediction for the 2025 UNC football team.
Offense
This Tar Heels offense will be a high-powered offense led by OC Freddie Kitchens. UNC brought in Gio Lopez (South Alabama) to compete with four star freshman Bryce Baker out of the state of North Carolina. Losing a guy like Omarion Hampton is going to be hard to replace. Especially with an offensive line returning three starters, but both tackle positions aren’t proven yet. This offense will be a pro style which is going to be more pass-focused. A breakout candidate to watch is Jordan Shipp who's a sophomore to go along with a reliable target in Kobe Paysour. The offensive line is going to be the big question mark especially going from a run-heavy offense to a pass-heavy offense.
Defense
Belichick’s defenses are always the best part of his teams in the past. With his son Steve being the defensive coordinator has me excited. Up front, they brought in Pryce Yates from UConn to add beef and experience up front. Losing Beau Atkinson (transferred to Ohio State) leaves a gap,but they have the talent to step up. With the linebackers, they don’t have a headlining name that can lead the defense just yet. However, they will be disciplined knowing Belichick’s coaching style. The secondary will be sharp, but their cohesion will be tested early and often. I expect a ton of pressure, but I am curious to see how a Steve Belichick defense looks in year one of his dad’s stint at UNC.
Schedule
Vs TCU (Loss)
At Charlotte (Win)
Vs Richmond (Win)
At UCF (Loss)
Vs Clemson (Loss)
At California (Win)
Vs Virginia (Win)
At Syracuse (Win)
Vs Stanford (Win)
At Wake Forest (Loss)
Vs Duke (Loss)
At NC State (Win)
(7-5)
The win total is set at 7.5 with the over at (+140) and the under is at (-172). If the offense can find their rhythm early and their defense can maintain levels that Belichick will hold them too. Then this team could go over this number. However, I see struggles early and growing pains are going to cost this team their over win total. This is a bowl eligible team no matter what, but their ceiling is higher if everything can come together.
